The Life-Changing Moment That Helped Me Revive My Glow

After surviving a sudden cardiac arrest in 2023, I realized how urgently I needed a true lifestyle change. This story shares how I rebuilt my health, restarted my wellness journey, and finally committed to sustainable healthy habits.

A Personal Story by Wallen

I wasn’t expecting anything unusual that day in April 2023. It was just another game of basketball, something I’d done countless times. I remember the rhythm of the court, the sound of the ball, the familiar burn in my lungs. And then, everything went dark. The next thing I remember isn’t a hospital room, it’s waking up on the gym floor as paramedics fought to bring me back. They revived me right there. By the time I was in the ambulance, I was conscious, breathing, and trying to understand how my heart had stopped in the middle of something so normal.

That experience made me reflect on my well-being and how I could revive my glow, both physically and emotionally. This moment became the beginning of how I rebuilt my health, a journey I share more deeply on my About page.

At the hospital, the doctors explained what happened and what it meant for my future. The decision to implant a defibrillator was one of the hardest choices I’ve ever made. It’s not something you imagine having to decide in your early 50s. But the doctor said it clearly: this device could save my life if my heart ever failed again. That truth settled in deeper than the device itself.

The next day, I was in the operating room. When I woke up, the road to recovery began slow, humbling, and full of moments that forced me to rethink my habits, my priorities, and the way I was living.

The Years I Let Slip By

Before that moment, I had tried to build healthy habits more times than I can count. I’d start strong, new workouts, better food choices, promises to myself and then, a few weeks later, everything would fade. Life has gotten busy. Motivation dipped. Old patterns returned.

It turns out this is incredibly common. Healthy habits often fade because we rely on motivation instead of systems, try to change too much at once, expect fast results, and fall back into comfort when stress hits. That was me every time. I wasn’t weak, I was human.

But after April 2023, the stakes were different. My body had already given me the loudest warning possible. I couldn’t keep drifting.

The Shift That Finally Stuck

Even after the cardiac arrest, I didn’t change right away. I slipped back into old habits for a while. But slowly, something shifted.

I started walking more.
I started working out again.
I started eating food that fuels me instead of drains me.
I started paying attention to how I feel, not just how I look.

For the first time, it didn’t feel like a temporary “health kick.” It felt like a return to myself — a revival. Those small, imperfect changes marked the moment I stopped chasing quick fixes and started committing to habits that would genuinely help me revive my glow over time.

Now, I have a clear goal: lose 15 pounds in three months and finally burn the belly fat I’ve carried for years. Not out of vanity, but out of gratitude. Out of respect for the second chance I was given.

What This Journey Means to Me Now

When I think back to that day on the basketball court, I don’t think about fear anymore. I think about purpose. I think about the life I still get to live. I think about the habits I’m building, slowly, consistently, imperfectly, and how each one is a small promise to myself.

This isn’t just about fitness. It’s about energy. It’s about longevity. It’s about showing up for the people I love. It’s about honoring the body that fought to keep me alive. That moment became the wake-up call that forced me to slow down, listen to my body, and finally commit to doing the work to revive my glow from the inside out.

If you’ve struggled to stick with healthy habits, I understand. I’ve lived it. But change doesn’t happen in one dramatic moment. It happens in the quiet, daily choices that build a life you’re proud of.

I’m still on my journey.
I’m still learning.
And I’m finally moving in the right direction.

  2. Indeed, everything happens for a reason. It might have been a delayed realization of the things we neglected to do but what is important right now is not to waste the chance given to improve and give more importance on how to have a more healthy balance life because our body is a holy temple of God. ♥️
